In this week’s episode, Barb and Michelle continue their conversation about Barb’s silent retreat and her biggest takeaways, including the life-changing revelation she had during an interaction with mud. Follow us @MichelleMaros and @Peaceful_Barb and share your experiences with us @BarbKnowsBestPod or at  www.michellemaros.com/podcast.

Episode Notes:

Buddhist tradition teaches there are two types of suffering:

  1. Suffering that leads to more suffering. This happens when we fuel that suffering with negative thoughts.
  2. Suffering that ends suffering. This occurs when we feel the feelings without letting the mind write stories that are not true.

From this retreat, Barb was able to recognize the deep sense of impermanence and how living in the present is how she can experience real joy.  She learned how she had not truly been caring for herself, not receiving, just continuing to give without refilling her cup.

Compassion Meditation (Repeat to yourself)

I care about your suffering.

I care about your pain.

I care about you.

May you be free from your fears.

May you be peaceful and live with ease.

  1. Wow wow wow I can’t tell you how much this resonates with me … you’ve helped me beyond belief! As you are “Barb” but you were not connected to you … the meditation gave you the space to acknowledge and face your yourself and realise you needed compassion for you the hurt Barb , the suffering Barb! As you yourself said, you had never meditated for you!!!! So at last ny facing yourself, allowing the hurt to surface and the healing can begin… so much is true! Also I too am ending a 44year marriage and the pain is hard! It’s my choice but still hard! So for you to say you wanted it wrapped up before the retreat I totally get! Life has to unfold not at the pace we want but the pace that is set for us! So yes you can now look back and realise with hindsight the timings were right! So I am glad to know on October the 6th you are whole! Healed from grief, healed from a lifetime of giving to others before yourself, ( though that’s an on going healing I realise) thank you for sharing your experience and know how much you’ve helped a person in England with your story

  2. Thank you so much for sharing these experiences and thoughts! Mud can be fertile. With rain it can enable things to grow. In this way being impermanent and permanent, you might flourish through difficulties and possibilities. I think.
